What We Do

We meet on the first Tuesday of every month and start at 7:45pm with announcements and news from the Committee about events or society business. The evening’s talk begins at 8pm and is generally just over an hour with questions and discussions. Once the talk is over members are free to leave, but most stay on to discuss the evening’s talk, get advice on telescopes, cameras or any astronomy topic that grabs their attention. Tea and coffee are available or drinks are available from the bar.

Monthly meetings are also a chance to borrow a book from our library or one of our loan telescopes.

If the sky is clear there is an area behind the clubhouse where we can set up a telescope, or take a look at the night sky, especially if there are planets or other interesting objects to look at. Outside of the meeting we have observing nights for more serious observation and members also take their telescopes to outreach events with schools, Scouting and Guiding groups.
